Every organ of the human body has a special role and is required to be looked after in a particular way. At a time when we are in an environment full of pollutants, carcinogenic stimulators and toxic substances, our body always stays exposed to such potential troublemakers and thus, it becomes pertinent to take special care of it and to detoxify our organs from time to time.

A very crucial organ in the female body is the pair of breasts. An integral part of the female reproductive and post-reproductive maternal care system, the breasts are also the ones that remain highly susceptible to cancer. In India, around 14%  of the total cancers in women, are related to the breast. Breast cancer thus forms the most common type of cancer among women in India. While it’s undeniably true that the toxicity of the surroundings adds up as a cause for the aforementioned data, what else cannot be overlooked is the fact that there is also not much care taken of the said organs. A stigma related to breasts is still prevalent, even within the closer circuits of the Indian womenfolk. Thus, in today’s article, we would look to break this stigma and enumerate ways to take care of your breasts and detoxify them, so as to hop in on a healthier and safer journey of life.

Mitigating toxicity to improve breast health

Almost 90% of the total cases related to breast cancer have their roots in poor lifestyle, environmental toxicity, and regular ignorance of physical and mental well-being. The rest of the 10% of cases that have the genetics to blame, can also be mitigated or even at times, almost obliterated through a healthy lifestyle. By incorporating a very basic regular physical exercise regime into one’s daily routine, the chances of developing breast cancer can be lowered significantly. The American Cancer Society recommends 45-60 minutes of physical exercise for at least 5 days a week to keep problems like cancer at bay. What else is helpful in reducing cancer risks, is monitoring the skincare and beauty products that are employed for beauty enhancement. Many of those contain fossil fuel based ingredients and thus tend to cosmetics disrupt the biological and hormonal balance in the body and can even activate the dormant carcinogens. While these are very basic activities that can be put into use to keep a check on the possible entertainment of carcinogens in one’s daily life, we will now be heading towards specific self-care routines that can be undertaken in order to specially detoxify the breasts.

Rebounding

Rebounding is a type of an aerobic exercise. A rebounder or a mini-trampoline is an essential item to ensure quick and brisk movements and thus leading to activation of the body. The bodily movements help to move out the waste materials from the body which, otherwise, may get reabsorbed into the bloodstream. An up-and-down movement with the soles constantly in contact with the surface of the rebounder can help the lymphatic system get going.

The lymphatic system, the connective tissue that carries interstitial fluid from within the cells and tissues, is also used to dispense off the waste materials from the cell activities. In the absence of ‘cleaning’ of the lymph nodes, the channels might get congested and what would happen as a result is an accumulation of toxins. Thus, in order to keep it healthy and decongested, one can resort to activities such as dry-brushing, regular intake of hot water, avoiding the use of antiperspirants to the extent possible, and a lymphatic massage. Antiperspirants or perfumes are applied under arms close to the breast and since these products contain harmful substances and carcinogens. The aluminium-based substances present in antiperspirants block the sweat glands and prevent sweat from appearing on to the surface. The belief is that if the skin, which lies close to the breast, absorbs these components, they may induce cancer. Although this claim has not been scientifically proven but the concern is there.

In fact, physical exercise, which we have talked about before, works on this very aspect of our health. By indulging in exercise and physical movements, the lymphatic system gets stimulated and thus occurs smooth movement of the fluid which prevents it from getting congested.

Castor oil packs

Castor oil packs help in the detoxification of the gastrointestinal tract, rebooting the liver and rejuvenating the immune system. Also known to reduce inflammation in breast tissues, it’s also important to note that these are extremely case-sensitive and might thus not suit everyone. Getting an opinion from a medical expert before actually starting to use them can help.

Discarding tight innerwears

Also, it’s important to focus on what we wear. Dresses and apparel do have a role to play in how our health takes shape. Wearing tight, wrong sized bras can increase the chances of breast-related disorders. This is again connects back to the importance of  lymphatic discharge. Wearing tight underwear bras prevents the flow of lymphatic fluid and in turn, increases the toxic concentration in our body. That’s why it is always advisable to wear wireless bras without hard metal or to go braless whenever possible. The metals pressed against the reflex points of the breast can overstimulate it which may lead to the exhaustion and reduced functionality of those points.

Right Nutrition

And lastly, what matters is the diet. We are what we eat – not entirely logical but a simplistic expression of how crucial our diet is, in order to shape our health. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables, foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, and avoiding processed foods can be a good way to secure one’s diet.

Thus, it is imperative we know about what can have a negative effect on our body and our breasts and be mindful to maintain an arm’s length with such activities and endorse habits which are healthier for a stable and perfect lifestyle. It’s important for us to know that the breasts are extremely important organs in our body and thus, it is pertinent to take good care of the same.
